As the son of archeologists, Tommy has traveled the world.  From the tombs of Egypt, to the coliseums of Rome, he’s enjoyed the experience of being exposed to people and cultures of many nations. 

Wherever Tommy finds himself he’s at home.  Never the type to feel out of place, he makes new friends with ease. He’s mature for his age, is quite chivalrous and speaks several different languages.

Because of his parents’ success, Tommy comes from a quite affluent family. Unlike Cassandra’s family however, the West family doesn’t flaunt their wealth, or feel as if it separates them from “regular people”. They consider their financial success a blessing.  They use what they have to help others and place their faith in the Lord and not in the stock market. These are ideals that Tommy's even tried passing onto Cassandra- and is still trying!

As the more laid back member of the Crew, Tommy ends up being the counselor or the referee depending on the situation. There are times when instead of sharing his feelings he keeps them tucked away. That’s when the Crew steps in; reminding Tommy they are there for him as well.   

Where Wire enjoys all things technical and futuristic, Tommy enjoys discovering the past through historical things, (the Crew jokingly nick-named him Indiana West). For example, he’s intrigued with the Bible, not only for the content but for its historical value.  An experienced rock climber and explorer, Tommy loves to spend time outdoors or curling up with a good book such as The Chronicles of Narnia  by C.S. Lewis - (one of his favorites and Carter's too!)
